Luckily, there are a few natural remedies that can be taken for people that are fed up with the traditional headache medications. Below are five natural remedies that help cure headaches. Before using any of the remedies mentioned below, always consult a doctor, especially if you are pregnant.

Butterbur is an anti-inflammatory herb that has proven to be effective in preventing migraines. However, Butterbur is not effective for acute migraines once they start. The daily dose is said to be 75 milligrams, taken twice a day.

Ginger and Feverfew

Feverfew is an herb that has been used throughout history to provide relief from migraine pain. If it is used with ginger, which is known to be an anti-nausea herb, it proves to be more effective. The combinations of these two ingredients have taken form into a pill called LipiGesic.

According to a recent study conducted by Cady, LipiGesic has proved to have an effective rate of 63%. LipiGesic usually provides relief within 2 hours of digestion.

Vitamin B2

Studies have revealed that having an adequate supply of vitamin B2 in the body can help reduce the number of migraines. One of the causes believed to lead to migraines is added stress on the nerve cells. These nerve cells cause migraines when there is not enough energy being supplied to them.

Vitamin B12 helps boost the energy production that takes place inside every nerve cell in the human body. Around 400 milligrams of Vitamin B2 or riboflavin should help in preventing migraines from occurring.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiencies are becoming very common. Most people prefer to spend their time inside their home curled up on the couch rather than going out and soaking in some sun. A lack of vitamin D in the body has yet to prove to be a source for headaches.

However, research shows that vitamin D plays an important role in how our bodies perceive pain. Generally, people can take around 2000 milligrams of Vitamin D daily without suffering from any adverse effects.

Magnesium is known to help calm the nerve cells which get over-active when you suffer from a migraine attack. Some research studies found that migraine sufferers usually had a magnesium deficiency.  Magnesium, when taken on a daily basis, helps to prevent migraines. To increase magnesium intake, purchase amino-acid chelated magnesium or eat dark green veggies, seeds and nuts.
