Strategy #1: Be very clear about your goals
Simply stating, “I want to lose weight” is not enough for a weight-loss plan. Your brain will only be motivated if it knows the difference between where you are and where you want to be. When your goal is clear to your brain, it will start making an effort to look for the solution to the problem. Therefore, if you weigh 155 pounds and want to weigh 135 pounds, then your goal is to lose 20 pounds. Being clear about your goals also makes you anticipate the success. Thus, you will work harder towards your goal.

Strategy #2: Make an OK-to-eat plan
The number-one problem, many dieters face is that at social events. They have to eat something. Refusing to eat is not an option because it is a social gathering. Thus, they usually end up eating the wrong thing. The best way to overcome this obstacle is plan ahead. For example, if your friends plan to order dessert, then you can order coffee. Alternatively, if you are asked for a business lunch, then you can eat salad. Extensive studies support that a-safe-to-eat plan will make it three times easier for you to succeed in your diet goals.

Strategy#3: Monitor your success
When you are on a diet, you should keep track of your progress. In addition, keep a daily diary in which you jot down the food you ate and how much you exercised. Furthermore, stay focused on your goal. If you have lost 10 pounds and have to lose 5 pounds, then keep reminding yourself that you still have 5 pounds to lose! Do not dwell too much on your progress because you will start slacking off.

Strategy # 4: Be optimistic and realistic
One of the most difficult things about losing weight is that it is possible, but it is not an easy journey. Dieters who keep unrealistically optimistic goals are never able to lose their weight because they then do not stick to their diet plan. Fattening and calorie-filled food easily tempt them, and before they know it, they break their diet rules.

Strategy# 5: Your willpower will be tested.
Dieters are tested on their willpower when dieting. Can they resist the yummy chocolate cake that everybody is enjoying the birthday party? Can they resist comfort and junk food? As long as you are able to control yourself, you will have an easier time losing weight.
