Having a flat abdomen may seem like a dream for some people. Some say that it takes loads of exercise and sacrifices to get that perfect flat ab. But all you really need is determination to make things happen. Have your mind fixed on getting that flat abdomen and slowly and gradually you’ll get there for sure.
Don’t just sit in front of the TV gawking at models wearing swimsuits and other body hugging attire, imagining what your flabby tummy would look like in the same clothes. All you have to do is get up and follow a few tips that will turn your dream into reality.
Pay Attention to your Posture
Slouching is always a bad idea, no matter if you’re in the performing arts or a regular high school student. It not only affects your image projection, but with the passage of time, slouching also causes permanent damage to the structure of your bones.
Slouching makes your stomach stick out and makes you look heavier than you actually are. Try to stand straight whenever you can with your shoulders aligned with your ears, knees, hips and your ankles. This exercise won’t cause much strain on your body and you can do it any time of the day whether you’re in the office or at home. All you need to do is be cautious of your body returning back to the slouching position and within a few weeks, you’ll get into a habit of keeping your back straight at all times.
Doing Pilates is a great way to keep your full body in shape. The exercises performed during this regime are designed to tone the whole body, especially the area starting from the abdomen and below. Along with your glutes, you’ll also be gently working on your back muscles keeping your spine erected.
You can also use a zip up exercise included in the Pilates regime. This involves standing on your feet flat with hands held firmly below the chin. Next, slowly lift the heels of your feet above the ground with your arms going downwards and your balance hanging on the tiptoes. When you inhale in this position, holding your breath for a few seconds, your abdomen will be pulled in and start retaining that shape after twenty or more repetitions.
Belly fattening foods
Be careful of your diet. If you eat foods that greatly contribute towards belly fat then exercise won’t do you that much good. No matter how strong you think your abdomen muscles are, they’ll be kept hidden under all the bulging belly fat that you’ve gathered. Stay away from foods that have a high content of starch and carbohydrates like fried potatoes and puddings etc.
Props for Exercise
You can use all the exercise balls and straps or bands that you want in the gym but these won’t guarantee you stronger and flatter abs. Props aren’t that necessary for obtaining a flat tummy. You can get rid of all that belly fat with regular exercise and walks.
You could even stand in one position and simply inhale to pull your navel in towards the spine. The best part of this exercise is that unless you’re wearing tight attire, nobody will be able to notice the fact that you’re exercising while enjoying a party or even shopping at the mall.
